Commerce Street Railroad Yard
SKA Consulting was retained by a private developer to conduct environmental investigation and remediation activities on an approximate 6.277-acre former railroad yard. The railroad yard was active from the late 1800s through the late 1990s. Typical environmental impacts encountered include petroleum hydrocarbon impacts from lubricating oils and fuels in soil.
A total of 5 permanent and 6 temporary groundwater monitoring wells and 27 soil borings were completed on the property and only soil on the eastern-most portion of the property was found to be adversly affected by historical railroad yard activities. SKA managed cleanup activities of this property under the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP). The cleanup of the eastern portion of the property involved removal and disposal of impacted soils and was completed to a residential land-use scenario utilizing TCEQ’s Texas Risk Reduction Program (TRRP). A Final Certificate of Completion (COC) for residential land use was issued by the TCEQ VCP for the affected eastern portion of the property as a Partial Response Action Area (PRAA).
